Macbeth and MacB at GCSE

      Macbeth and MacB
Over the last ten years an increasing number of schools and LEAs around the UK have been using MacB
as a tool for introducing students to Shakespeare's Macbeth in preparation for GCSE. And many of them
have found it so effective that they have adopted MacB as their standard text for approaching Macbeth.

Set in a contemporary secondary school, MacB mirrors the plot of Macbeth but uses language,
characters and events that readers in their mid-teens can more easily relate to.MacB hooks
reluctant Shakespeare students in a way that Macbeth initially cannot, making the GCSE text more
accessible and ultimately more enjoyable for both students and teachers.

          MacB comes in two editions:

The paperback edition, published by Puffin, is currently put of print.

The Longman edition (on the right) is a hardback. You can order it online
through Amazon. Heineman will provide larger quantities on sale or return
for school signings. You can arrange this through your local bookshop.

      Macbeth and MacB Workshops
When I was writing MacB I was working as an actor at Shakespeare's Globe and giving workshops on
Macbeth and other plays by Shakespeare. If you would like to discuss a workshop based around MacB
